EP Review - Moire - 'Never Sleep' - Out now - Ninjatune

According to London based producer Moire the result of his debut EP is ‘lack of sleep, the obsessive expressions of a mind inspired by the city and the scene that has surrounded him for a long time’ and by god can you tell. His lead track on this release ‘Lose It’ featuring Heidi Vogel will automatically have your head bopping but not because you’re enjoying the song, because you will be shaking with disappointment.

With the very prominent lyric ‘If I lose it’ aided with minimal techno this track leaves your head mashed due to the variety of sounds ranging from what can be heard as a school bell and a buzzer. These aggravating noises which sound as if they’ve been taken from the keyboards at school seem as if they’ve been pushed together to make a bad alarm. The second track on the EP, nicely named ‘Drugs’ seems a bit less busy, with more focus on the drop compared to the array of different sounds fused together to accomplish something it just wont.

However, it seems that the EP as a collective has no real change within any of the tracks, with all sounding as if they’re one, long, overwhelming song that just won’t end. It seems that there was one positive thing to come from this EP and that’s the correct choosing of the name, Never Sleep. I can safely say after hearing that handful of noise I’m in no fit state to sleep after the racket I’ve just endured. However, if I do – it being used as an alarm clock will certainly wake me up in no time.
