Editors played an intimate gig last night at the City of London Nightclub Fabric. The set was showcasing new songs from their forthcoming 3rd album ‘In This Light And On This Evening’ being released on 12th October and was filmed for an Editors TV special for their website.

When I last saw Editors at The Roundhouse they were playing songs from their about to be released 2nd Album and made apologies to their fans for making them listen to new songs. Well, there was no need to apologise last night! The new tracks slipped seamlessly in with the old and they already seem like firm favourites. Even 2 of their 3 'encores' were from the new songs, ending with Bricks and Mortar which has all the makings of classic 'Anthem'

The music is far more uplifting than the dark moods of the second using much more in the way of synthesisers. In fact there were times when only Ed on drums was not playing keyboards. This electronic direction is claimed by lead singer, Tom Smith, to being influenced by the Terminator theme.

There's no doubt it was a tremendous set and hard to believe at times that just 4 were creating such a 'wall of sound'.  The band produced an excellent stage presence and I feel that when their 3rd album is released it will create a whole new wave of fans and the lads will be playing to stadiums and headlining festivals next year. This makes last night's intimate gig even more special.
